So . . . Unfortunately, I still have to ask Chris Mears for help when doing some trivial tasks, but I think I've got this one down. He told me to read the man pages for cut, sort and diff (so often just knowing which command to use is the most important thing).
So here are all the new songs which I have added to my library since Oct 13. The funny thing, is that many of these were songs I was supposed to have already had. I restored from backup once and ended up mixing Sand and my library which had hundreds of duplicates. I deleted everything which had a perfect MD5 match on files, but WMP had a helpful feature which changed headers in MP3 files for long enough that it messed the detection of many dupes . . .well anyway - I have literally gone through thousands of songs to find new music and rediscovered old music which I am supposed to already have. I am writing a silly little program which will allow me to find duplicated based off rarity of file tokens.
Many of these songs I'd have sworn I had in my active music directory. Little did I know!

No flac files this time around, but I did manage to get an OGG file in there. LOL.
If I ever completely make it through my "temp" mp3 directory (a project that gets worse and has been overdue for like 8 years) then I can truly say I've accomplished something in my life.
On the topic of accomplishing something in my life, I'm going to start my Masters in Computer Science at American Sentinel [Online] University in a few days. My degree from University of Phoenix is close to worthless for any kind of a tech job.
My point for writing this was that I was disheartened that I couldn't conveniently play a list of all songs I have recently added to my library. Back when I had MANY fewer MP3's I would have a new folder, and then when I was sick of listening to something over and over again I would move it to it's final resting folder (about 5 choices). LOL.
I'm going to make an application for listening to music and sorting through temp folders.
I want a mode that will stop at the end of every song and ask to delete it or sort it, for when I'm passively going through music (if a song can't grab my attention while I'm doing something else, I will delete it)
Also, I have a serious objection to global shuffle options with most players. I want an option which will play any song once before repeating, that is the only way to ensure that I hear every song every now when I have thousands. And it shouldn't be influenced if I select a song (players which "pre-shuffle" in a separate list are unusually offensive, because they appear random until you manually select a song and then it remains random until it gets back to the "pre-shuffled" list you have already heard - I wish that players which will not allow a song to be actually randomly chosen would just have a shuffle list option like XMMS2)
Oh, this problem reminds me of the "Yahoo Answers Rant" blog that I made on MySpace, about discrete probabilities after numbered iterations http://projecteuler.net/index.php?section=problems&id=213 The simple DP or brute force methods that I am thinking to solve it will not work, there are just too many probabilities. So what I think I will do is brute force on small boards or for less iterations and see if I can figure out the exact pattern. If I can make a formula for it, picking out a geometric series would probably be pretty easy. |
